Silver Lining Awards 2020

As a result of the many restrictions COVID-19 has placed on our society, the normal AIPP State and national APPA print awards were cancelled this year. Instead a new awards competition was born with AIPP establishing an online awards program in 2020. The rules were a little different and of course we weren’t able to witness any live or streamed judging but it was great to have something in a tough year.

I entered a few images in a couple of categories and am very pleased to say that an image I captured in Hong Kong in 2019 is a finalist (top 10) in the “Places” category. There were so many amazing images in all of the categories and over 3000 images were entered from AIPP members. You can see the semi-finalist and finalist images in all categories here: https://aippawards.com.au/silverlining/sla-results/

My image was of a basketball court that was on top of a car park that faced the colourful Choi Hung Estate. Choi Hung means rainbow in Cantonese. I went there with my good friend Scott Stulberg as a stop over on the way home from an India trip and was lucky enough to capture this simple, yet storytelling image.
